A long time ago, in a land far away...
called CHICAGO,
A group of men who were a little disappointed with the local Girth And Mirth club decided
to
band together and form a group called BIG MEN OF CHICAGO (a.k.a. BMOC). BMOC was different
than most big men's clubs because they cared to make their new club be less structured and
more fun than what they were used to in the G&M club. They didn't care to have a list of
by-laws, or have formal board meetings, nor have anything to do with setting up traditions in
stone. They just cared to have big men get together and have fun. Their events were not always
centered on big meals and drinking but just having fun in general. Unlike most G&M clubs,
they would have coaster park trips and zoo trips. They would also do pool parties and picnics
in the summertime. They also cared to do events that were more sexual in nature. They enjoyed having theme parties such as an underwear party where the men would have to strip down to their underwear when they'd arrive. Although some of the men were big eaters and drinkers, it wasn't what these men wanted to do all the time. And they had fun!
Also, they believed that a chubby men's club shouldn't have lots of money but instead just
enough to make the club work. A big men's club is supposed to be non-profit and therefore should not keep getting richer. So the club figured out the costs and came up with membership dues that were the bare minimum. At only $15 for a one-year membership, BMOC had the lowest membership dues of any big men's club at the time. That idea worked well, for about a year.
As printing prices and postage prices went up, the club was faced with a dilemma. Do we
raise our membership dues to make up the costs or do we come up with some sort of fundraiser? ( I'm using we now because by then, I was a member )
At the same time, we started seeing erotic videos featuring chubby men come on the scene.
We had seen them advertised in Big Ad Magazine and also Bulk Male Magazine. So, someone in the club came up with the idea of producing a video to raise funds for the club so we wouldn't have to raise our membership dues. I had some video and video editing equipment and I volunteered to produce the video, and some of the more active members of the club volunteered to be our first models, including myself. We gave it the title of, The B.M.O.C. Home Video. At first we advertised the video to our own members and although sales were not exceptional among our club of only 40 members, we managed to sell 12 videos the first month. That generated more money than we had anticipated. We took some of the money and invested it in some advertising. We advertised our video to The Affiliated Big Men's Clubs (a.k.a. ABC) and the president of ABC at that time, Ken Richter wrote a great review for us in their newsletter called, The Affiliate. We also took out a full-page ad in The Big Ad back when The Big Ad was half the size it is now. That created a steady flow of income for the club and the club never had to raise their membership dues. In fact, after a few months, when the memberships started to expire, we just renewed the memberships for free. We gave all the profits back to the club by throwing parties and having picnics for the club for free. Those were some good times.
But after another year, the video sales were dropping. So I recruited a few more men to do
a sequel to the first video. Also, at that time, we were seeing a bunch of bear clubs starting
up all over the U.S. Most of us were attracted to big hairy men. A group started up in Chicago called The Great Lakes Bears Of Chicago. We like what we saw there and we approached them to do some events together. We related to them although they attracted bears of all sizes and we concentrated on being a big men's club. There was so much crossover between the two groups. Many of our members became members of their club as well. We looked at that concept and thought, Hey! We're bears too! We're bears by virtue of our size and we are bears by virtue of our hairiness. We're the Big Bears! So when our second video was done, we formally named it, The B.M.O.C. Home Video Volume II: Big Bears In Heat.
But! As we were completing the production of the new video, the club suffered from a lack of participation. It seemed that the competition was getting to be too much for us and the guys started preferring the bear events to our events. So shortly after releasing the new video, our club participation quickly went downhill. We had gotten together to discuss if our club was worth saving and we all felt it was not. I felt it was a shame that I had created this great video, Big Bears In Heat, and no one was going to get to see it. The club also agreed and decided to give me full rights to keep selling the videos on my own to add to the very few selections that were available at the time.
Thus, BIG BEAR PRODUCTIONS has come to be. This was in May of 1994. Although, I do claim that we've been in business since 1992, because that's when I produced the first video.
Since then we have released Big Bears' Luna Blu. We now have two new videos in the works and we're always looking for new faces and new big hairy bellies for future projects. E-mail us if you want some more info.
